In this manhwa, we have the main character Yvonne who is reluctantly addicted to an otome game that her friends convinced her to try. She quickly completes all the paths on the regular difficulty and sets the game to hard mode. She continuously dies in hard mode and refuses to sink real money into the game to win.

Hard mode is different than all the other modes because in regular difficulty she plans as the heroine and in hard mode she plays as the villainess. Imagine her surprise when she wakes up in the otome game she’s playing as the villainess, Penelope.

This book was very average and mediocore from the very beginning. I don’t really expect much creating going into an iseaki. They all revolve around the same premise and stick to a standard formula, but they are usually enjoyable as they lean more into well-developed characters and immersing you into a new word.

Villains are Destined to Die does neither of those things. It was very easy to put the book down and I forgot nearly all the characters the moment I closed the book for the day. Even writing this review I had to look up not only the names, but what role they played in the story.

It is the first book of a series so I don’t want to be too harsh. After all, you can’t fully develop characters, and worldbuilding of an entire series in the first volume without being a complete info dump. I do plan on continuing the series, but it’s not at the top of my list.

Let me know if the series is worth continuing and what you thought about volume 1.
