Plot and Story
I’m going to be honest. After reading the first 50 chapters I got a bit worried that the premise of the store would become stale and boring rather quickly. Kim Dokja has the ability to know what is going to happen as well as extensive knowledge of systems, items and abilities in this world after all. I was glad to see that between chapter 50-99 the story gets more complex and diverts from the original story so much that we see some situations where Dokja is put at a disadvantage.
We revisit some characters that were introduced early in the series as well as travel to some new locations in Seoul which gives another perspective on characters and people who have survived the calamities at hand.
Characters
We get a deeper understand and history of some of the main characters and they each get the chance to grow on their own without Dokja. This is vital to the story and character development because up to this point, Dokja has just been telling them what to do and where to spend their coins. We get to see how characters make decisions and think for themselves without Dokja and how Dokja reacts and learns to work with their new abilities.
We get introduced to a few catastrophes that have been awakens from their meteorites prematurely and it really gives us a taste of just how horrible of a new world earth is. There’s no way humanity would be able to survive these apocalypses.
We also get a sneak peek at some characters who are battling and surviving scenarios in other countries such as Japan and India. I hope as the story progresses we get to meet or at least hear more about those characters.
Setting and Atmosphere
I am absolutely invested into this world. We get some history and background on the constellations and Dokkaebi and a better understanding of how the systems work. We didn’t get that in first 49 chapters so at some points I wondered who was in control and what was happening on the other side.
We get a little more taste of it and it makes the series all the more interesting and solidifies the amazing world building.
Overall Enjoyment
I stayed up until 3 in the morning reading and I usually fall asleep reading when I start so late. The pacing of the action kept me convincing myself I was only going to read one more chapter until I finally decided to call it a night. I’m rating this five stars in every category. There was a big of a lag in action around the 60 chapter mark before it speeds up again. I think this was important though as it gave us much needed information for the events that were about to unfold.
