August 2024 Reading Goals

This month has an exciting new release for me. This is a new series from James S. A. Corey called Captive’s War. The first book in the series is called The Mercy of Gods. I like going into a book without reading the summary. I don’t want anything to influence my experience of the book and I like to enjoy it on my own without bias and without high expectations. A spoiler-free review is the most I will look at although I must admit I’m guilty of judging books by their cover and their author.

I’ve been waiting for this release since I put down volume 8 on release day. I can only hope I’ll get lucky again and my preorder will arrive on time. I’ll be reading this the moment its in my hands and regretting the last page as I wait for volume 10!

Solo Leveling is a fantasy manhwa where the main character Jinwoo Sung is given the unique ability to level-up. I can’t say much without getting into spoilers, but if you haven’t watched the anime or read the web comic then you are missing out

I will be continuing my favourite series as top priority. I want to get through a few of them this month. This includes:
1. Ascendance of a Bookworm Part 1 Volume 3
2. Ascendance of a Bookworm Part 2 Volume 1
3. Ascendance of a Bookworm Part 2 Volume 2
4. Ascendance of a Bookworm Part 2 Volume 3
5. Ascendance of a Bookworm Part 2 Volume 4

I don’t doubt that this is ambitious, but this series is easy to sit and read for hours. All I need is a really relaxing weekend and I will be able to get through at least two volumes without any issues.

I will also be continuing to read through the Fire Force manga series. Kindle Unlimited has up to volume 11 available and I want to read through at least that much before my subscription expires in September. I doubt I will be able to read through all the volumes in August, but if I can make it to volume 6 that would be an achievement.

Villains are Destined to Die or Death is the Only Ending for a Villainess is a manhwa that I was hoping to complete this month. I’m not sure why I thought this was a completed series, but ah well. I’ll just continue on from volume one if the budget allows.

This was just an okay read for me so if the story doesn’t pick up in volume two then I will likely just drop the series and move on to something else.

I’ve been in the mood recently to read more relaxing books. By the Grace of the Gods fits that order well. I need to start this series because I love the cover art and want to collect the series, but I also don’t want to be disappointed if I don’t enjoy the series and end up with 26 volumes of a series I don’t enjoy.
